Central banker says digital ruble testing to take at least 1 year
MOSCOW, Nov 15 (PRIME) -- The Russian central bank will not hasten introduction of the digital ruble as its testing will take a year or more, Chairwoman Elvira Nabiullina said on Monday at the State Duma, the parliament’s lower house.
“I reiterate that we plan to have a prototype at the beginning of the coming year, then we’ll test it for at least a year. Maybe, it will take more time to test it, see how and where it works,” Nabiullina said.
The digital ruble will not “accelerate inflation, impact inflation – it’s a third form of money and we’ll launch it massively when we’re sure that all the conditions are fulfilled: it is moved from cash to digital, to cashless, one-to-one, only on these terms,” she said.
